Electric Heat Pads
During the cold season an electric heat pad may be used to help keep your teacup baby warm, but please be also aware of the potential safety hazards. Some heat pads will turn themselves off after a certain time period, and therefore offer heating ability for a limited time only.
If your ittybitty puppy starts chewing or nibbling on the pad or the cording, the heat pad should either be secured and thoroughly covered or disguised and taped down or replaced with a different way of keeping the teacup pup warm.

In the case of an adventurous pup [just because they are very, very little – doesn't mean they don't do the same silly stuff normal sized pups do – they just do them cuter, LOL], you may be better off using a heat lamp clamped to the top of the playpen, so the pup cannot reach it. Be sure to check for fire hazards when using heat lamps, and make sure that they do not overheat the puppy playpen area.

Microwaveable HeatPads
Microwaveable heat pads are normally recommended for your chewers, diggers or otherwise destructive pets. They are safer than electric devices in these cases, but some do not hold the temperatures long enough to supply a tiny pup with enough heat throughout a long winter night in the northern states, or during a long day home alone while you are at work.
Be sure to test them first before you need to depend on them in an emergency!

BodyHeat Activated Thermal Pads
I like these a lot as they self warm up and usually - coupled with a nice and cushy regular bed and a stuffed toy or two for comfort - tend to keep the puppies plenty warm during the day or night in normal climates or during the colder season here in the south.
I strongly recommend these or Thermal Stuffed Beds for areas where you have the occasional electric outage due to winter storms or blizzards, and cannot rely 100% on electricity at all times!!!

Thermal Sleepers or Stuffed Beds
As these usually have thick padding in addition to the thermal lining, these are my preferred type of self warming beds and I generally recommend them for folks living up north year round for their tiny pups and dogs. Especially if you are dealing with the occasional electric outage - these coupled with some additional fleece blankets will give your teacup and tiny puppy or adult comfort even when it is cold in the house.

Electric Heated Beds
And last but not least - the electric heated beds and huts. I like these a lot for tiny puppies - again the huts are closed up and pretty much draft free [important when you live up north or in an older home]. When I choose heated beds, I make sure I pick one where I can safely remove the heat pad, heating elements and thermostats and that the bed is washable.
A puppy bed that is not washable is a waste of money - ask me how I know, LOL.

If you are shopping for new puppy bedding and other supplies and love the huge selection and price ranges that Amazon.com has to offer - I kindly ask you to access Amazon through our website...
Why you ask? Well for fairness reasons I need to say that I get a small [very small - about 3-4%] commission for your purchases as an Amazon Affiliate.
I've started doing this recently, in hopes that it will help paying for the upkeep, maintenance and webhosting renewal fees for this free to you Teacup & Tiny Puppy Care Website, that during the last two years has been coming out of my own pocket. It also allows me to purchase new dog items I haven't tried before and do hands on [and paws on] testing and reviewing of them, for you to recommend to [or not] as the case may be, for your own future use...
Please understand that I do not get paid for building this website. Nobody pays me for the 4-6 hours I put into each page researching, writing and designing, or for my knowledge that goes into this. I am building this website because I love dogs, and because I hate to see the smallest ones needlessly suffer due to misinformation or mismanagement, or possibly die because their new owners don't know how to bring them up in a safe way, or their breeders send the pups home before they were ready to go for a quick buck!
Sooo - if you have been price shopping and comparing and you're considering using Amazon for your puppy or other personal purchases - kindly access Amazon through one of the offers here [even if it is something totally else you are looking to buy] and help me pay for this website - your kindness is greatly appreciated...
Thanks, Sabine
